John W. Smith is a full time maker who makes a wide variety of knives, from working class folders to medium and high end art knives. He uses his own designs, or will build to customer specifications. John makes both bolstered and interframe folders in various patterns like fighters, boot, and daggers. He uses many natural materials like mother of pearl, abalone, stone, Mammoth and Walrus ivory, and several man made materials like G10 and micarta as well. John makes his own damascus, and offers gold inlay, gold engraving, carving and filework, and is a specialist with hand fitted mosaic pattern inlays in pearl. Johns work is very sought after, and he is considered one of the top makers in the country. He is a voting member in the knifemakers Guild.
