Stephen Olszewski is realitively new on the knifemaking scene, but has made a huge impact in a very short time. Drawing on his occupation as a sculpter and a jewelry modelmaker, his transition into knifemaking around seven years ago was a natural. He makes one of a kind art knives, both manual folders and automatics, in what he likes to call "figural" designs. They feature plenty of deep relief carving, and many themes are drawn from nature. Stephens favorite materials include fossil Ivories and various mother of pearl for handle slabs and inlays, titanium for liners, and he uses a lot of gold and precious stones for accents. Damascus from many of the top forgers is his steel of choice for bolsters and blades. While Stephen often builds spec knives, he is always open to working with customers on designs of their choice. Destined to be a top maker, most fine collections already include at least one of Stephens knives.
