When an avid knife collector, who had helped with the cleanup of the World Trade Center disaster, was offered some small pieces of bronze and steel beams in appreciation for his work, he put them to very good use. A limited edition of eight commemorative full integral Chute knives from Dietmar is one result of that effort. This knife is one of the eight made, and measures 9 1/8" in OAL and has a 4 1/2" blade length. Dietmar chose to send the pieces of WTC steel beams to world reknowned damascus maker Conny Perrson to have him forge a special damascus for this knife. Additionally, there is a small bronze inlay on each side of the blade, one is stamped WTC, and the other is stamped with the date 09-11-01. This bronze was taken from a Trade Center Plaza sphere that was shattered by WTC steel beams and debris. While the sphere was resurrected, and now stands in Battery Park as a monument to that sad day, some small pieces that were given to the collector as a "thank you" make up the blade inlays for these eight knives. Dietmar used either Ivory or Mammoth bone for the handle slabs, and this knife has the nice tan colored Mammoth. A light tan leather snap sheath is also provided for this knife by Dietmar. This is a very unique knife, and is sure to be highly collectable as a tribute to a day none of us will ever forget.
(Note: Ron Lake and Steve Johnson also made commemorative knives from this steel and bronze, and each will be shown in their respective sections on this site. All three of the WTC knives have also received prominent placement in David Darom's new book.
