When an avid knife collector, who had helped with the cleanup of the World Trade Center disaster, was offered some small pieces of bronze and steel beams in appreciation for his work, he put them to very good use. A limited edition of seven commemorative Chute knives from Steve is one result of that effort. This knife is one of the seven being made, and measures 9" in OAL and has a 4 5/8" blade length. The blade is made from an actual steel beam from the WTC, that has been heat treated and mirror finished. The guard and pins are made from the bronze that was taken from a sphere that was shattered by WTC steel beams and debris. While the sphere was resurrected, and now stands in Battery Park as a monument to that sad day, some small pieces that could not be salvaged were given to the collector as a "thank you". The escutcheon with the date stamp is also made from this bronze. The tube is polished stainless steel. The magnificent Amber Stag handle slabs are nicely matched, and are underlaid with red fiber liners. In addition to the escutcheon with the date stamp, "One of Seven" is stamped on the reverse side of the blade. This knife comes with a light tan leather snap sheath. A classic design from Steve, and in a very limited edition unlike any other ever made.
(Note: Ron Lake and Dietmar Kressler also made commemorative knives from these materials, and each are shown in their respective sections on this site. All three of the WTC knives have also received prominent placement in David Darom's new book.
