Steve Johnson, known by some as SR Johnson, sold his first knife in 1972. Having worked with Bob Loveless early in his career, he learned the right way to make a knife. He has since worked with, and has been a mentor to, many other fine makers. The list includes  Dietmar Kressler, Ricardo Velarde, John Young, and several others. Steve makes mostly investment grade straight knives in several designs like hunters, skinners, boot, and some special designs. He has more recently made a few linerlock folders, working with Michael Smith on those. He favors the use of ATS-34, 440C, and RWL-34 stainless steels. Steve is a very sought after knife maker, and is so busy he will not take orders for his knives. He typically uses a lottery method of selling at shows. Steve is one of the twenty-five members included in the prestigious Art Knife Invitational in San Diego, and a voting member of the Knife Makers Guild.
