Wow, where does one begin describing a knife like this? This is John’s “Riptide”, a linerlock fantasy folder. It is 13 1/16” OAL and the blade is 63/8” in length. The blade steel is 5160/W1/ Nickel Mosaic-Checkerboard-Flower worm Hole damascus by George Werth. The blade grind is 8” hollow. The bolsters are two different patterns, Paisley and Crossroads, forged by Robert Eggerling of 1095/15N20/ Nickel. They are hand fit and soldered together with 18K yellow gold strips. They are beveled, sculpted, radiused, hot blued, and contain thirty 3MM AA grade blue sapphires set in 18K yellow gold bezels. There are sterling silver liners between the bolsters and the titanium liners. The titanium liners are 6AL4V bi color anodized, fully fileworked and beveled. The scales are exhibition grade fossil mastodon ivory in a blue/green and tan color, radiused, carved, beveled, and contain two 3MM, and six 4MM blue sapphires set in 18K yellow gold. The liners between the ivory and the titanium liners are edged in 18K yellow gold. The backspacer is San Mai W1/440C damascus, hot blued, fileworked, inlaid with three 2MM grade AA blue sapphires set in 18K yellow gold, and contains a lost wax raised gold casting on the outside. The inside contains two lost wax gold castings, each with seven 2MM grade AA blue sapphires inlays. There are two thumbstuds on each side of the blade, one with a 3MM and one with a 4MM grade AA blue sapphire set in 18K yellow gold.  Needless to say, words and pictures do not do justice to this knife. It is best appreciated in your hand or in a showcase. This knife has been featured in numerous publications, including the finest hardback book ever printed about custom knives, David Darom’s “ Custom Art Knives”.
