Don Hanson III is a full time knife maker who sold his first knife in 1984. His specialties are one-of-a-kind folders and forged fixed blade knives. Additionally, he has, on occasion, made some automatics. He uses many original styles from small fancy art knives to large fighters and Bowies. Don forges his own pattern welded damascus, and most of his knives contain fancy filework and carving. He uses many natural materials for his handles such as mother of pearl, Mammoth and Walrus Ivory, abalone, and many others. He also uses solid gold accents on many pieces. Don is considered by many to be among the top ten knife makers in the country.
