Kaj Embretsen has been a full time knife maker since 1986. Starting originally with Scandanavian designs, he soon graduated to making all different styles, including hunters, daggers, and fighters. After attending several shows, and applying for membership in the Knifemakers guild, his knives began taking on a style uniquely his own. He now makes mostly folders, some in lockback and some slipjoints, and many are multi blade styles. Kaj forges his own damascus, and uses it almost exclusively. He favors very high quality natural handle materials like Mastodon, Mammoth, and Walrus Ivories, mother of pearl in black lip, white, and gold lip, and precious metals like gold. His sole authorship knives are valued highly, and found in the best collections around the world. He has won numerous awards, and is a participant in the prestigious Art Knife Invitational held bi-annually in San Diego.
