Van Barnett has been a full time knife maker since 1981. His specialties are sole authorship one of a kind art daggers and art folders. His collector grade knives are generally upscale and highly embellished creations using such materials as fossil Ivories, various mother of pearl, gold, diamonds and other gemstones, and many types of stone. Van forges and grinds his own damascus, and does all of his own engraving, carving, and all other embellishments. He has won numerous awards and recognition for his incredibly unique designs, and is married to another very well known maker, Dellana. Van and Dellana on occasion do a collaboration on a high art knife. He is a voting member of the Knifemakers Guild, and a member of the ABS. Van is featured in David Darom's well known book, Custom Folding Knives, and is also one of only twenty five participants in the prestigious bi annual Art Knife Invitational.
